What are the work incentives for SSDI in Nevada?

If you’re receiving Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) in Nevada but want to try returning to work, the Social Security Administration (SSA) offers work incentives to help you do so without immediately losing your benefits. These programs allow you to test your ability to work while still receiving income support.
Find out if you qualify for SSDI benefits. Pre-qualify in 60 seconds for up to $4,018 per month and 12 months back pay.
Please answer a few questions to help us determine your eligibility.
Trial Work Period (TWP)
The Trial Work Period lets you work for up to 9 months (within a 60-month rolling period) while still receiving your full SSDI benefits, no matter how much you earn.
- Any month you earn more than the set TWP amount counts toward the 9 months.
- These months don’t have to be consecutive.
Extended Period of Eligibility (EPE)
After your TWP ends, you enter the Extended Period of Eligibility, which lasts for 36 months. During this time:
- You will receive SSDI benefits for any month your earnings fall below the Substantial Gainful Activity (SGA) limit.
- If your income is above the SGA limit, benefits are suspended for that month — but you can restart them if your income drops.
Continuation of Medicare Coverage
If your SSDI benefits stop because of work activity, your Medicare coverage can continue for at least 93 months after your TWP. This allows you to maintain health insurance while transitioning back to full employment.
Expedited Reinstatement
If you lose your benefits because you earned above the SGA limit but later find you can’t work again, you can request Expedited Reinstatement within 5 years without having to file a new SSDI application.
Nevada-Specific Support
Nevada residents can also access state and local vocational rehabilitation services that help with job training, adaptive equipment, and workplace accommodations to make returning to work more feasible.
